I'm quite a fan of the musical My Fair Lady, written by Lerner and Loewe, and Shaw's play Pygmalion on which it was originally based. One of the many memorable songs of the musical is “Why can't the English?” sung by Rex Harrison, which displays the prescriptivist attitude of Professor Henry Higgins regarding English language pronunciation. I don't generally agree with the bigoted viewpoint of the character, but it is easy to see how the song has become popular amongst certain opinionated people. I wouldn't be surprised to find it's on Lynne Truss's iPod! It's an amusing song anyhow, and well worth a listen.

That's also comedy, albeit unintentional comedy!
